Penang Nyonya Cuisine

I have been waiting for someone to set up a Nyonya restaurant in Klang Town until recently I
discover one in Centro Building called Ah Tuan EE Penang Nyonya restaurant. It is a shopping lot on the ground floor of the building decorated with simple decor and some photographs of baba and nyonya and their custumes.
The food served is authentic nyonya dishes and the dishes we chose are tasty , spicy and and
looked good for people who fancy spicy food. Lets take a look at the photos that I have taken.

This dish is called Perut Ikan which consists of 12 types of herbs like, serai, daun kesum,
daun kadok, daun perut, bunga kantan to name a few and vegetables such long beans, brinjal
and pineapple cooked for a long time in a spicy sweet and sourish soup with prawns and pickled
fish maw added. This dish turns out to be very tasty and aromatic because of the herbs. It is
good.

Green Chicken Curry - A spicy green aromatic curry. The green curry comes from green chillies blended with spices and cooked in coconut milk to give a rich gravy. The gravy is thick,
fragrant and tasty. You can eat it with rice or maybe bread.

This is Joo Hu Char or simply shreded turnips fried with shredded dried cuttlefish and shredded
mushrooms. We normally eat this vegetable dish wrapped with chinese lettuce leaves and a
little sambal added to give the 'oomph' or 'kick' literally. It is very interesting and you get to
use your fingers all messed up. Nice, very nice.

Here comes desert - Penang Rojak, simply, mixed fruits with prawn paste sauce. Fruits such as
turnip, pineapple, cucumber, star fruit, mango, guava, any fruits that you like can be used.
The sauce is sweet, saltish and aromatic and most Malaysians love this desert.

If you love spicy food and especially nyonya food, drop me a line to share your experience.

Japanese Cuisine

I learned to appreciate Japanese food some 2 years ago. As time goes by, I enjoy eating
raw salmon, tuna & cod fish with their famous wasabi. Even raw oysters, it takes a while
to learn to eat them with lots of lemon squeezed into it. It is so wonderfully adventurous
the first time I really swallowed the raw oyster.and then the same experience with sashimi.
The sushi, rice rolled with seed weed with ingredients like soft shelled crab, fried chicken meat, cucumber strips, crab stick and lots more as the center filling.
The tempura is merely deep fried battered prawns, brinjal, ladies' fingers, sweet potatoes
and any other vegetables and they are dipped with their sweet soya sauce.
My family and I went to this Sushi King in the Tesco Mall in Klang for out dinner. I find the
food served here is not so nice and lack variety. Anyway, lets take a look at some of the
sushi and bento served

Western Food

Western Food are mostly grilled or pan fried. The flavours are always black pepper, BBQ sauce,
mint sauce, tomato sauce and they also use a lot of butter. Western food is simple to prepare
and plain in taste except when served with sauces like BBQ sauce, Thousand Island sauce or
mayonaise.
This week my son requested for Western food and we went to Dennys & Partners Cafe in
Klang Town which serve quite tasty western food. They have quite a number of choices of appetisers, soups, chicken, lamb and steaks and wide selection of drinks from coffee, cappuchino
to fruit juices and ice creams.

Grilled Lamb with mint sauce and thousand island sauce.
This grilled lamb looks good and tastes good but the meat is too tough! It comes with mashed potatoes, lettuce leaves and slices of tomatoes.

French Gordon Blu Chicken with thousand island sauce.
This dish is actually chicken stuffed with ham, coated with bread crumbs and deep fried.
The chicken is aromatic and tastes good. It comes with mashed potatoes , lettuce leaves and slices of tomatoes.

BBQ Sauce Chicken Chop with thousand island sauce.
The BBQ sauce is a bit sweet and has a nice fragrance and it goes well with the fried chicken.

This outlet , though located in a quiet area behind Klang Parade, it attracts a lot of customers especially families and youngsters during the weekend mainly because the price is reasonable.

Steamboat Chinese Style

Steamboat

Indulging in steamboat during cold weather is very refreshing for the body. That is why steamboat is very popular in Japan, Korea, China and lots of places where there are Chinatowns.

The soup for the steamboat is actually very simple. You can just boil with the chicken bones, pig's bones, cow's bones and even with anchovies with a little salt added in. This is to make the soup tasty and become even tastier when you add in ingredients like chicken meat, fish meat, beef, prawns, cuttlefish, fishballs, taufoo and different types of vegetables.

There are so many varieties of seafood and meat that we can add . You can also add the types
of noodles that you fancy.

Steamboat
Do you like steamboat? There are also the Thai style steamboat which is spicy
and sour- the tom yam soup.

Chinese Cuisine

Finding interesting food is my favourite venture during the weekends and holidays. I will go around the Klang Valley with my husband and son or sometimes friends to look for food recommended by friends or food that comes out in the newspaper.
This weekend, we decided to give ourselves a treat at the tallest building in Klang Town -Centro Buliding. We walked into the most expensive restaurant in this town which when translated from mandarin ,it means "Palace". The ambience is cool and the decor is quite classy. The service is superb.
The food comes in small serving and dainty and after finishing five dishes, we are still a bit hungry.

Roasted Pork & Roasted Pork Ribs

Roasted Pork is so good & very crisp. It goes with some wasabi mixed sauce for dipping.
Roasted Pork Ribs is sweet with a nice flavour.

Pan Fried Scallop
The scallop is fresh and you can taste the natural sweetness. It is delicious.

Braised Fish Maw with Chopped Pork
I like fish maw for it sponginess and this dish is quite ordinary and plain in taste.

Dried Scalop in Shark Bone Soup
This soup is simply marvellous. Besides scallop and shark bones, they added a few cubes of
green melon which make it unique and tasty.

Fried Fish Paste

The fish meat is removed from the skin and minced into a paste with chopped spring onions
& water chestnut. The paste is then wrapped with the fish skin and deep fried. When it is done, it is cut into big pieces with chilli sauce for dipping. The taste is good.

We decided to give ourselves another treat in the same building. This time around is ICECREAM. We found this heavenly icecream parlour known as New Zealand - Natural

Sundaes

The icecream sundae of mint, macademia and strawberri yoghurt with strawberri fruits and chocolate chips toppings is so..so..delicious & yummy. Isn't it mouth-watering, ice cream
enthusiast go for it!
